Somali man, '112', weds girl, 17

Hundreds of people have attended a wedding in central Somalia between a man who says he is 112 years old, and his teenage wife.
Ahmed Muhamed Dore - who already has 13 children by five wives - said he would like to have more with his new wife, Safia Abdulleh, who is 17 years old.
"Today God helped me realise my dream," Mr Dore said, after the wedding in the region of Galguduud.
The bride's family said she was "happy with her new husband".
Mr Dore said he and his bride - who is young enough to be his great-great-grand-daughter - were from the same village in Somalia and that he had waited for her to grow up to propose.
"I didn't force her, but used my experience to convince her of my love; and then we agreed to marry," the groom said.

Less ODIs would prolong Tendulkar's career: Border

Sachin Tendulkar should cut down on his limited over appearances to prolong his Test career, feels former Australia captain Allan

Border.

"I have high esteem for Tendulkar and his achievements in international cricket. But I think, it would be better for him to appear in fewer limited over matches, including one-dayers. It would help him to prolong his Test career," Border said.

Border, who made 11,174 runs for Australia from 156 Tests, feels Tendulkar's ability to handle pressure is the mantra behind his success in international cricket.

"Representing your country for 20 years in international arena is not a small achievement. There is always a lot of pressure on an international cricketer and I must say Tendulkar has managed it beautifully," Border said.

Tendulkar, who has till date scored 12,773 runs from 159 Tests, since making his debut against Pakistan in Karachi way back in 1989.

"Like many others, his career was also disturbed by injuries. But even after many ups and downs, Tendulkar still has the same passion and love for the game," said Border, who is here as the brand ambassador of Airtel Delhi Half Marathon to be held on Sunday.

"Tendulkar is a player who always looks for improvement. It would be very difficult for others to climb to his stature," the former left-handed batsman said.

Border also expects a keen contest between India and Australia in the ongoing seven-match ODI series, but feels the hosts have the momentum after last night's comprehensive win.

"After thrashing Australia in the second match, India certainly has gained the momentum. But both the teams are evenly powerful and I expect a close finish, probably a 4-3," the 54-year-old Aussie said.

Riding on skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's breathtaking 107-ball 124, India crushed Australia by 99 runs to claw their way back into the series, which is now levelled at 1-1.

"India would have a slight edge because they know the environment. And it is always difficult to deal with so many injuries while playing such a long series. It's very important to keep the key players fit," Border said.

Australia's injury woes deepened when wicketkeeper Tim Paine was ruled out for the rest of the series after he broke his finger during the second ODI in Nagpur.

"The team (Australia) is still going though a transition period after retirements of players like Shane Warne, Adam Gilchrist and Justin Langer. It is always difficult to fill the void," Border said.

He also lavished praise on India captain Dhoni for his leadership qualities.

"Dhoni is a aggressive captain and he has brought about that attitude in the squad. He is leading by example like what he did in the last match. He is also getting support from his team-mates," Border said.

Taxis without Drivers

Taxis without drivers

At London's Heathrow Airport, for example, appeared a taxi, which copes and without human management. Taxi drivers - this dual phenomenon. On the one hand, with sometimes interesting talk on the road, on the other, sometimes they are too intrusive or do not know the road. That's Heathrow Airport in London, apparently, having weighed all the pros and cons of taxi drivers as such, have decided to renounce them. Of course, these four-seater taxis do not drive you arrived at Heathrow passengers anywhere in the city. They will act exclusively in the territory of the airport, as the link between terminals, parking and other facilities, airport complex. The passenger can only sit in a taxi, to indicate on the touch screen where it wants to move, and the taxi itself is taking him there and, of course, without tipping. Money terminal, standing in the taxi, take off with your card exactly as much money as you need, and a penny more.

Coming soon, 'World's Greatest Books Retold Through Twitter'!

London, October 27 (ANI): Two students in the US have summarised the stories of some of the world's greatest literature in to 140-character messages using the popular microblogging site Twitter.
Emmett Rensin, an English and philosophy student at the University of Chicago, and friend Alexander Aciman, who is studying comparative literature, condensed the plot lines in 'Twitterature: The World's Greatest Books Retold Through Twitter', soon to be published by Penguin.
According to the Telegraph, the book reads Dante's Inferno as: "I'm having a midlife crisis. Lost in the woods. Should a bought my iPhone."
Sophocles' Oedipus the King is trimmed to: "PARTY IN THEBES!!! Nobody cares I killed that old dude, plus this woman is all over me."
Homer's The Odyssey, and the work of Milton, Kafka and Shakespeare also feature in the tome.
Rensin said: "It's funny if you've read the books."
Aciman added: "There were some lines in the book where we're sitting on a couch and we're writing it, and we'd both laugh and say 'there's no way they're going to let us write that'.
"Some people think it's funny and some people think it's disrespectful.
"I'm not going to say it's high art. There is some value to it, I feel, aside from the fact we're making available the idea behind great works of art." (ANI)

Who will decide CEO salaries?

Until recently, Union Corporate Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid made no bones about the fact that he wanted to end the practice of listed companies seeking government approval for a director's pay. ''Let the shareholders decide how much they want to pay someone, though there must be disclosure, to us, to the shareholder, to the public at large,'' he had said.
But, if his comments provided cheer to corporate India, then the minister's dramatic U-turn in the first week of October gave it a rude shock. Khurshid has now trained his guns on CEOs, dropping broad hints at tightening the law to rein in ''vulgar salaries . Under the present Companies Act, 1956, the remuneration of full-time directors cannot exceed 10 per cent of the company's net profit as computed under Section 349 and 350 of the Act. One per cent of the net profit can be given away as commission to directors.
The new Companies Bill, tabled in the Lok Sabha, however, seeks to do away with these caps on pay and allows even loss-making companies to pay remuneration as approved by shareholders. This would practically end the need for government approvals on director salaries.
The minister now says that the Parliamentary Standing Committee is examining the provisions of the new Bill and will take a view on the CEO salary. He has, however, made it clear where he stands on the issue. The Congress Party is unlikely to gloss over the matter especially when the message of austerity has emanated from 10, Janpath.
Khurshid sounds convincing when he refers to annual salaries and perks to the tune of Rs 50 crore for an individual, which, he says, is ''more than 12,500 times the per capita income in India''. But the weapon he is likely to use to rein in the practice a piece of legislation may do more harm to India Inc. than good, feel observers. This is not to say he should wash his hands off the controversial subject, but he must limit himself to strengthening shareholders rather than taking over their role. His ministry can, for instance, force companies to display far greater transparency in the award of salary, perks, commissions etc. His government agencies, if resources permit, can initiate shareholder education programmes and teach investors how to read the fine print in a company's documents that are in the public domain. Once enlightened, the shareholders will do what the minister intends.
Nonetheless, it is also true that India Inc. faces a huge shortage of competent managers who can take firms to greater levels of profitability. If the post-liberalisation era saw corporate India unleash phenomenal entrepreneurial development and explosive growth in GDP numbers, it was in no small measure spawned by these top guns, who are now, ironically, the subjects of attack. Corporate India can collectively respond to the outcry against obscene salaries. Men like N.R. Narayana Murthy are quite candid and admit that some form of salary corrections are needed.
How can it help matters, though?
One: by voluntarily tempering the compensation package of its top executives so that CEOs can hold their heads high and announce their salary to shareholders, rather than hide the figures in the tome called annual reports. Two: by encouraging its senior executives to do ISR individual social responsibility and return a part of their earnings to society and help those who are under eternal austerity.

Captain Hit the island Sith

In Croatia, a drunken captain ran to the shore of the island Sith
The ferry "Marco Polo" of the Croatian operator Jadrolinija on the night of October 24, crashed into the shore of the island Seet (Croatia).
On board were 41 passengers and 64 crew members. No one was hurt.
In addition, the ferry was carrying 18 vehicles, which on Saturday were still on board.
127-meter vessel went ashore in nearly 15 meters, almost without damaging the house, standing on the shore of the island.
Owners of one of them told reporters that in the middle of the night they were awakened by a loud noise.
Jumping on the street, they saw the ferry, which almost crashed through the wall. According to residents of the island,
that night was heavy rain, and in the Adriatic Sea was a storm, so the captain could not see the shore.
Meanwhile, ferry passengers believe that Captain "Marco Polo" Zdenko Radic was drunk or asleep.
